Honeycomb Hybrids

Inspired by nature’s honeycombs created by honey bees, wasps, and erosion patterns seen in limestone caverns (just for starters!), I have been playing around with honeycomb in weave for several years.  Far from being a one-trick pony, honeycomb has many different facets that reward investigation. From a simple two block weave through to complex visual and textural effects, this basic plain weave unit can be adapted and translated from traditional ‘honeycomb’ (or deflected weft) woven cells into overshot honeycomb ‘lace’ effects, warp and weft ribbed cells, double cloth, deflected double weave, and finally turned honeycomb.  With many images to illustrate the incredible variety that can be created, this is Honeycomb For All Tastes.

…a fantastic talk, Thank you. I think there was something for everyone in your talk — the newer weavers and the more experienced weavers. It was a joy working with you.

Your presentation was fabulous! You did an excellent job of including a lot of information, but also keeping it clear and understandable for weavers with different levels of experience. Lots of good ideas to work with!

That was a wonderful lecture this morning, full of delicious rabbit holes, and so clear and well organized. It was an absolute delight (individual member).
